Last weekend I took a trip with some girls from church to the West Sea (China Sea) coast for the annual Mud Festival! The bus ride to Boryeong was a little over 2 hours, and it was worth it! When we arrived, we put our things in lockers, changed into swimsuits, and joined the throng of mud-lovers. Apparently, this area is famous for its production of mud, the kind that's good for your skin. They had buckets of mud and paint brushes that we used to literally paint the mud on our bodies. Then we stood in long lines to do obstacle courses or splash in water or whatever, and eventually we washed off in the sea. It was awesome!
After getting all muddy, we took a trip to the local jimjilbang (bath house). They had cold water bath, hot bath, salt bath, sauna and a special mud bath. All I can say is that I loved it. I have no pictures of this. If you want more information, contact me in person. :-)
We stayed a little too late and had to catch taxis to the train station for the return trip. I loved our taxi driver. He put his life (and ours) at stake to get us to the station in time. It was the most exciting taxi ride I've ever been on. And I'm grateful to be alive.
Here is a picture of us on the train, squeaky clean!
